NASCOE has invested in a legislative tool called CAPWIZ.  CAPWIZ allows a person to view their
congressman’s voting record, receive alerts from NASCOE when action is needed, contact their
representative and senators with a message they write or a prepared message from NASCOE,
and use the “tell a Friend” option to get additional people to send the desired message.  It is
useful and can serve many purposes.

Remember the more letters received the more attention it will get in WDC.  CAPWIZ is our best
avenue, as employees, to contact our representation in WDC.

CAP WIZ Alert Statistics….NASCOE Alert regarding 2011 Presidential Budget Posted April 12 to
3237 subscribers.  Subscribers that have sent alert 587 sending 1790 messages or 18.134%
acted on alert.  South Dakota has 145 subscribers and 31 (21.379 %) have sent the alert as of
April 19th.

Our most current alerts that were sent is;
  • April 12 – 2011 Presidential Budget
    NASCOE is requesting that this alert be sent to our Representatives and Senators stating
    our feelings on the three important issues:

  1. Presidents 2011 Budget. It includes NASCOE's position that our budget needs to be
    adequate increased to administer the programs as mandated in the 2008 Farm Bill.
  2. There is also a statement included in the alert regarding FSA's IT issues and need for
    increased budget to resolve these issues.
  3. Request Congress to have separate line items in our budget for salaries and expenses so
    monies are not diverted from salaries for IT issues.

  • December 16, 2009 Alert that was sent out with concerns on the HEALTH CARE REFORM
    – just under 640 alerts were issued across the US (20%).  This alert went to Senate only.  
  • FERS Sick leave Credit – This bill passed as a result from your help granting credited for
    unused sick leave to be gradually phased in within in 4 years for full credit of unused sick
    leave.

Again this year we are having a drawing for $25 from the people that have used CAPWIZ at least
one time this past year from April 30, 2009 to April 28, 2010.  Winner is Jennifer Chavez.

In addition we will have a drawing for one person from anyone that has signed up new to CAPWIZ
at Convention this year. The winner will receive $25.  The winner is Mary Haag.
